New version of the remote support software “AnyDesk”

AnyDesk is a widely requested and popular software solution used by IT staff to provide user support. It enables remote access to workstations to assist with IT issues and has already been in use at the Göttingen Campus for many years. In the coming days, the transition to the latest version of AnyDesk will take place; this version is compatible with modern operating systems and meets current security standards. Following close consultation with stakeholders at the Göttingen Campus and after considering various factors, the decision was made to switch from the previous on-premises setup to the cloud-based version of AnyDesk.

Shutting down the old server

With the adoption of the new version, the old AnyDesk clients and the previously locally hosted AnyDesk server will no longer be required. Consequently, following a brief transition period, this server will be permanently shut down on June 30, 2026. We ask all users to switch to the new AnyDesk clients by that date.

The new client software

End users can download the new software for various operating systems as usual at https://www.gwdg.de/qs. For IT support staff, the GWDG provides the support client for various operating systems upon request via support@gwdg.de.
